About Ann
Ann’s family immigrated to the United States when she was 11 years old. Her family came because her father was forced into a reeducation camp during the Chinese Cultural Revolution, and Ann and her brother were banned from attending college because of their family background.
Arriving in Erie, Pennsylvania with no English, Ann had to learn English along with other academic courses as well as learn the American way of life. Ann successfully adjusted to life in the United States and went on to obtain an engineering undergraduate degree from Penn State University and an engineering Masters and MBA from the University of California at Berkeley.
Ann is an engineer and entrepreneur who is fluent in both English and Chinese. She founded and ran 3 companies for a total of 18 years. She then became a full-time caregiver for 4 years, caring for her parents in their 80’s with failing health, her husband who was stricken with Parkinson’s, and her twin teenage boys. Ann’s children all attended SFUSD elementary, middle and high schools.
